Midnight Sun RIB Cruise from Tromso
Bask in the raw beauty of Kvaløya and Gåsvær islands, and get up close to porpoises, seals and sea eagles — all under a never setting midnight sun — on this 2.5-hour cruise from Tromsø. Set off aboard a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) in the late evening, and glide across the icy waters of the Norwegian Sea to Gåsvær. On route, pass by Kvaløya and keep watch for native wildlife. Then, enjoy free time to wander the white coral sand beach and visit the wooden church on uninhabited Gåsvær.
Make your own way to Tromsø Harbour in time for your late night departure. Meet your guide and experienced skipper, pull on your provided flotation suit, and begin with a comprehensive safety briefing. Then, climb aboard the RIB and jet out of the harbor toward Gåsvær, a tranquil, uninhabited island in the Norwegian Sea.
As you bounce across the waves, admire the snowcapped peaks and untamed alpine beauty of Kvaløya, known to the Sami people as “Whale Island,” illuminated by the bright light of the midnight sun. Listen, too, as your guide talks about the unusual polar phenomenon, when the sun doesn’t dip below the horizon during the Arctic summer.
Scan the waters for porpoises, seals and sea eagles, and hear about the area’s native wildlife. Then, after roughly 45 minutes, arrive at the postcard-perfect Gåsvær. Disembark the RIB and make the most of around an hour of free time to explore the island independently. Soak up the rays of the midnight sun with a stroll along the white coral sand beach, and perhaps visit Gåsvær Chapel, a charming little wooden church that only holds one annual service.
When the time comes, join back up with your guide and group, and relax during your cruise back to Tromsø Harbour, where your experience concludes roughly 1.5 hours after midnight.
