5-Hour Guided Snowshoe Hill Hike on the Whale Island in Tromso

A wonderful way to explore more!
Immerse yourself in the wild nature of the Northern Norway at its best during the snowshoe hike.

Scenic drive along the fiord makes a perfect beginning of the tour. At the destination our guide leads you to one of the summits on Kvaløya island. Relish the feeling of crunching over, rather than sinking into, the pristine snow. Great views over surrounding majestic mountains and the fiord are the reward for the effort - we hike around 400 meters elevation to reach the top. Therefore the trip requires you to be used to physical activity, but previous snowshoeing experience is not needed.
Wearing proper winter boots and warm clothes is a must on this tour.

We take good time for breaks to take photos, learn about the local countryside, and savor a hot drink and snack on route.

The activity starts at 10am, when the shy daylight breaks through the polar night darkness.

Tromsø Outdoor guide is waiting for you in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel in the city center. After brief introduction we begin with ca. 45-50 minutes drive to the destination. Usually we hike in Kattfjordeidet but taking into consideration weather and snow conditions we may head to some other locations on some tours. All our guides speak English, depending on who you go with you may be lucky to be able to communicate also in German, Swedish, Polish or Spanish.

The adventure starts with a short introduction on how to use snowshoes, so everybody has time to get familiar with the equipment. We stay in one group all the time during the trip and hike to one of the summits surrounded by great views over majestic mountains and fiords – so long as the weather allows us to see them.

There are a few stops for rest, photos and to chat about our region and Arctic environment. One break is longer, and a hot drink and local sweet snack lefse are served.

We are back in the town ca. 3pm so you will have enough time to enjoy good dinner and rest before you head out again to wait for the northern lights to appear.

Activity is conducted in small groups - min. 2 max. 12 guests.

As the weather can change quickly - we live in the mountains by the sea! - you need to wear proper winter clothes and boots. They are not included in the price of the trip but you can arrange rental in Tromsø Outdoor Activity and Rental Center. Come in good time before the trip starts, you will find us on Sjøgata 14, open daily 9am-5pm.
