Discover the world of Mozart and music! Visit the interactive Haus der Musik and the Mozarthaus Vienna with Mozart´s only still existing flat in Vienna at a special rate!
Mozarthaus Vienna presents the life and work of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, with particular emphasis on his Vienna years from 1781 to 1791, in a unique setting in the heart of Vienna close to St Stephan’s Cathedral.
Domgasse 5 is the only one of Mozart’s apartments in Vienna that still exists today. The composer lived in Mozarthaus Vienna in grand style from 1784 to 1787. Nowhere else did he compose more music. Visitors can see not only the historical apartment but also an extensive presentation of major works by Mozart and of the times in which he lived.
Only a few blocks away is Haus der Musik: it is an interactive sound museum which provides a new approach to music on a playful as well as scientific level. Walk around the six floors of the museum at leisure, browsing the interactive displays and musical artifacts that abound. Highlights of the museum include the historical archives of the Vienna Philharmonic where you can listen to a shortened version of their famous New Year’s Eve concert. If Vienna’s classical composers are of interest, then head up to the third floor to learn about their lives in the city and the music they created. A virtual conductor exhibit is also found on the floor, so test your conducting skills by waving a baton along to a video of Vienna Philharmonic playing.
