Welcome to the Quebrada de Humahuaca, named a World Heritage Site in 2003. This 5-hour mountain bike tour will travel the rural gravel roads to visit Tilcara and its surroundings. Discover multicolored and eroded hills, a product of millions of years of erosion, as well as the history of the area. Leave the bikes for a short hike to admire the fossils of the Cerro Amarillo and visit the Pucara of Juella.
The tour begins at 8am with the pickup from your hotel in Tilcara. Once at the starting point, you will receive a chat of your experienced guide who will explain the security measures, your bike's features and how the road will be during these 20km of adrenaline and fun.
For the next 4-hours you will travel the dirt roads of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, where you will be able to see the different colors of the terrain and hills. Despite the winding road, you do not need experience to do this tour.
Throughout the path, you will be able to distinguish the unique landscapes that makes up the Province of Jujuy along with its fauna, which is composed mainly of llamas, foxes, condors and eagles. This is a wonderful nature reserve with the most varied flora and fauna.
After approximately 10km, just before reaching the main attraction of the tour, you will leave the bikes to visit the Pucara of Juella, an archaeological site occupied 1,000 years ago, where you can see the ruins of the indigenous peoples and the fossils of the Cerro Amarillo. The visit ends with a fabulous view from the Quebrada de Juella (Juella’s Gorge).
You will bike back to Tilcara along the same path. The tour ends back in the center of Tilcara at approximately 1pm.
