Argentine Asado Experience and Palermo Viejo Tour
Learn about the food and culture of Argentina on this 5-hour, small group tour in the beautiful Palermo Viejo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Visit butchers, bakers, wine shops and more before learning how to make chimichurri, asado and other delectable dishes. Relax and enjoy the delicious foods you have helped to prepare.
Meet your guides in the fashionable neighborhood of Palermo Viejo to begin your 4-hour culinary experience. Begin by learning how to light the parrilla (the grill) and make chimichurri.
Once the chimichurri is complete, it’s time to head out into the neighborhood for the approximately 1-hour shopping portion of your tour. During your walk, you will stop at a plaza to learn about the history of the neighborhood. You will also see excellent examples of street art and can learn about the artists who have created them.
Your first stop will be at a family owned, hand-made knife store. Learn about the important role knives played in the history of the local Gauchos. Next, head to a local wine shop to find excellent wines to pair with the food you will prepare. Then it is time to stop at the butcher shop to compare the different cuts of meat. Then, make one last stop at the bakery before heading back to the guide’s home to begin preparing the asado.
Learn how to prepare the meat, create the salad and build the fire with charcoal and wood. While the food cooks, enjoy a light snack and a traditional, local drink, a ‘fernandito,’ while learning about its place in Argentine history. Then, as the food you’ve helped prepare begins being placed on the table, switch over to delicious wines and enjoy your hearty meal.
To finish off your meal, help prepare a typical Argentine dessert and enjoy a classic mate with a unique twist.
